Homepage Hors d’oeuvres – Cal Coaster December 2006

Happy Holidays!

It is hard to believe that 2007 is just days away. While your ringing in the New Year and announcing your resolutions, don’t forget to add SEO marketing to your list of Must-Do’s for 2007. Because this time of year is synonymous with new beginnings, we are focusing this issue of the Cal Coaster on upgrading your homepage. The homepage is one of the most important aspects of your Web site. It is the first impression visitors to your site will have of your business, service or product and should reflect your professionalism and commitment to your clients.

Homepage content should help to inform visitors to your site as well as ease navigation to other major pages throughout your Web site. The content should also be written to help improve your search engine rankings. By adding keywords throughout your homepage content, you can help to improve your rankings with the most popular search engines.

To help you better understand the benefits of homepage content, we have developed our Homepage Hors d’oeuvres recipe. This month’s recipe will explain how homepage content should be developed and what types of information should be included. Homepage Hors d’oeuvre

2 cups Research

1 cup Content

Dash of Keyword Seeds

Sprinkle of Links

Measure out 2 cups research. Before writing homepage content, be sure to do your research to ensure that your keywords are the best possible match for your business. Once you ensure that your keywords are up-to-date, check out your competitors’ Web sites to get ideas of how they have handled content on their homepage.

Prepare 1 cup content. Homepage content should inform visitors about what type of service you provide and who/what communities you serve. For example, a real estate Web site should incorporate the communities in which homes are listed or buyers can find a property. Homepage content should also tell visitors how to contact you for further information.

Add a dash of keywords to content. Once you have developed content for your homepage, be sure to sprinkle keywords throughout the content. Keywords are essential to your SEO marketing plan and help to improve your rankings with search engines. The more keywords you can incorporate into your homepage, the better!

Sprinkle links throughout content. Your homepage content should also include links to the major pages of your site. From community links to product features to contact information, links to the most important pages of your Web site can help visitors better navigate your site and understand the benefits of choosing your company.

Cal Coast would be happy to re-vamp your homepage for you. Simply contact Support@CalCoastWebDesign.com to arrange a phone meeting to discuss.
