I’ve been meaning to blog about how a websites positioning in the search engines is determined by not only your SEO but by the amount of time your website has been online. Having worked in the computer/SEO field for about 15 years I wish that I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked by new site owners, “Hey why aren’t I showing up in search results”.
All of these site owners where new to the search engine optimization and more than a few handfuls where new to the Internet so it’s easy to see and to understand why they might ask questions such as this. What they didn’t and many of you don’t realize now is that search engines take their sweet time when indexing sites. Search engines view millions of sites each day and do their best to organize the results we see but because of the sheer amount of data they must process things appear slow to us, the ones waiting for results.
Even for those of you who have or are considering spending even more money on search engine marketing stop and think before you do. Ask yourself “how long has it been since my site went live on the Internet?” Most SEO specialists such as Cal Coast Web Design will tell you that it takes several months just to begin seeing results both from the time your site officially goes online and from the time your SEO efforts begin. Don’t go throwing more money into something that just got started. Give the search engines time to see your site and index your pages. Expect to wait anywhere from 3-6 months before you see yourself on any search results even if its near the bottom. SEO works wonders and so do search engines…if they are given the time they need to do so!
