50 Social Media Resources You Should Know About

I recently came across a very cool article in Website Magazine that covers the top 50 most used social networking resources. The article discusses some interesting concepts on why social media is on the rise and why it isn’t on the rise.

For example, I think it’s safe to say that most of us have seen social networking sites like MySpace get LOADS of attention, although it may be mostly coming from a younger demographic, there is definitely a growing amount of people outside of that younger demographic that have jumped aboard the social networking “bandwagon” as well.

It seems that social networking has begun to step outside the realms of teenagers and young adults, and spread into the corporate world, giving businesses, big and small, a great way to promote products and brand naming.

I personally have watched this “phenomenon” go from simple social networking for people to interact and make new connections, to full blown outlets for business, technology, entertainment, lifestyle, politics, sports, IT, film, advertising, music and finance.

Sites like Twitter, StumbleUpon and Yelp have sky-rocketed in rankings in the past 2 years gaining more and more users, proving that these types of oulets are on the rise.

The fact that there is an article on the TOP 50 social media resources says a lot too! So why would something like this NOT be on the rise???

Well as I mentioned, social media sites seemed to be heavily populated and created by a younger generation of people which has sort of left a little more room for youthful mistakes, leaving a more business-mature demographic hesitant to join in.

The article states that “social media content is still being considered by others to be in its infancy”, which may be true, but it has definitely managed to make its mark and continues to do so by maturing and branching off into the more corporate world.

Look at sites like LinkedIn, a place decicated to connecting business colleagues, supplying job and business opportunity resources, and it’s dominated by industry experts who share advice with others.

Ok, so say you are ready to delv into social networking. The article also poses some interesting questions that are commonly asked by businesses who may be considering, or just beginning to utilize social media resources.

  • Which sites are most important
  • What sort of time commitment should be made
  • How do I monitor my success and failuresThese are great questions and are defintely relevant.

The answers will be different for each business though and people will learn what works for them and what doesn’t the more they use these resources. There’s a bit of trial-and-error involved. Not to mention the fact that one site may benefit you in a particular area of your business and another site may benefit you more in other areas.

Utilize all you can!

So, as there may be some road blocks that still need to be worked out, I think that time and the continous growth of more business oriented social media sites is what will continue making social networking a necesity in the business world.

As someone who works to help businesses grow and flourish online, we are always encouraging social media outlets as a place to promote and spread the word of your business!!!

So get out there and see which social networking sites will work best for you! Below is a list of the top 50 used social media sites! This list comes courtesy of Ranking.com

Have fun!!!!!
