Today’s 12 Days of Christmas post comes from Desiree Garcia, with MADD of Orange County. Desiree is one of the strongest and coolest girls we know, we are blessed to have met her 🙂

We are not all mothers, and we are not all victims. We are grandparents, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, relatives and friends. We are men and women, young and old. Mothers Against Drunk Driving mission is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking. MADD was founded in California in 1980 and has been serving Orange County since 1981.

MADD is not a crusade against alcohol consumption. The focus of MADD is to look for effective solutions to impaired driving and underage drinking, to provide free support services to individuals, families and friends whose lives have been impacted by impaired drivers. Unlike cancer and other terrible diseases, MADD is not looking for a cure for under the influence driving…we already have one. Its you.

How can you support MADD Orange County?

  1. Donate – It is the end of the year and we always encourage donations in lieu of a Holiday gift. Givt the gift that saves lives. Donation questions? Contact Desiree Garcia at
  2. Girls Night Out – Come join us Wednesday December 16th at Patina Boutique in Costa Mesa from 6pm-9pm. Patina will be giving 15% proceeds to MADD and there will be a $5 entry fee that also goes back to MADD.
  3. Walk Like MADD – Register now for our annual 5K walk, Walk Like MADD, which takes place May 8, 2010 at Huntington City Beach. Register today!
  4. Volunteer – Volunteers are the heart and soul of MADD. Without them, MADD would have no one to stand beside an injured survivor in court; offer a hug to a grieving family member; educate a school child that alcohol is a drug; or answer the question from a concerned citizen, “What can be done to stop the deaths and grievous injuries on our highways?” Every volunteer job at MADD Orange County is important! From supporting the office staff in the day-to-day implementation of programs to the handing out of information at booths to comforting the victims of alcohol related crashes. There are lots of things to choose from. Contact Mary Beth Griffin at for more info.

And of course………..Encourage your family and friends to take a cab this holiday if they’ve been drinking.
